Particularly well known for his portrayal of Patrick Murphy on the soap opera The Young and the Restless and for his roles as Ritchie Graham and Nick Szabo on Ryan's Hope, he is also notable for his recurring roles on Hill Street Blues, Cagney & Lacey, and L.A. Law.
Early in his career, he played a small role in the 1971 Sean Connery film The Anderson Tapes.
He belonged to the Church of Scientology until 2011, at which point he severed all ties with the religious organization.
Born and raised in New York City, he later settled in Los Angeles with his wife Joy Graysen.
He played the father of Ben Affleck's character in the 1999 movie Forces of Nature.
