Mel Schacher

Rock bassist known for his work with Grand Funk Railroad. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he recorded ten platinum albums and numerous hit singles with the group.
His first professional music gig, at age sixteen, was as a replacement guitarist for the band Question Mark and the Mysterians.
He left Grand Funk Railroad in 1976 but briefly rejoined the group in the mid-1990s, touring all over the world and recording a live album entitled Bosnia.
He grew up in Flint, Michigan, where he spent his childhood years learning to play the banjo, guitar, and bass.
He, along with guitarist and vocalist Mark Farner, was a founding member of Grand Funk Railroad.
