NFL center and linebacker who played 15 seasons for the New York Giants.
He led the Washington State University Cougars to a Rose Bowl victory; he was widely regarded as the best college center in the country.
He was the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1938 while playing center, becoming the only offensive lineman to ever win the MVP.
He married his college sweetheart, Florence Porter.
He and Jim Thorpe were charter members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
