He grew up playing with Malatyaspor and Dardanelspor's youth teams before joining Dardanelspor's senior team in 2004.
He first played for Turkey's national team in 2008 and has won Super Lig titles with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
He married Selda Duman in 2010.
He and Arda Turan have played together on Turkey's national team.
