She was born in a suburb of Washington, D.C. to an American father and a Filipina mother. When she was ten years old, she relocated to the Philippines.
She won both the Miss World Philippines and Miss World 2013 beauty pageant titles.
Her sister, Lauren Young, is an actress. She began dating Mikael Daez in 2011 and the couple got married in January 2020.
She and fellow Filipina actress Jessy Mendiola were both members of the ABS-CBN talent development program Star Magic.
