Maurice Bejart
Dancer
French-Swiss dancer, choreographer, and director of operas. He headed Switzerland's Béjart Ballet Lausanne and established dance training schools in Brussels, Lausanne, and Dakar.
He began his dance career at the French Opéra de Marseille. He later founded the Ballet de l'Étoile, Ballet du XXe Siècle, and Béjart Ballet Lausanne dance companies.
In 2000, he choreographed a modernized, plot-altered version of the their Nutcracker ballet.
He grew up in Marseille, France as the son of prominent philosopher Gaston Berger.
He studied in Paris under dancer Olga Preobrajenska.
