An English author of works set in the Shropshire countryside, she is best known for Gone to Earth, a novel that inspired a 1950 film of the same title. Her other works include Precious Bane, The House in Dormer Forest, and The Golden Arrow.

Before Fame

Her first poem was published in October of 1907. At the age of twenty, she began suffering from Graves' Disease, a debilitating condition that influenced the themes and characters of several of her literary works.

She was awarded the Prix Femina Vie Heureuse for her 1924 novel, Precious Bane.

Family Life

She grew up in Leighton, Shropshire, England. She married Henry Bertram Law Webb in 1912.
