Martin McGuinness

Irish politician who became the deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland in 2007 and ran in the election to be President of Ireland in 2011.
He joined the Official IRA in 1969 and was second-in-command of the IRA in Derry at the age of 21 in 1972.
He was the subject of a two part special on Central TV called The Cook Report in 1993.
He married Bernadette Canning in 1974 and they had four children.
He was nominated for deputy First Minister at the same time that Ian Paisley was nominated for First Minister in 2007.
