American film director, screenwriter, and producer who directed such high-profile films as Meet Joe Black and Scent of a Woman which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture-Drama in 1992.
He went to and graduated from New York University's School of the Arts in 1973 and earned an M.F.A. degree in 1977 from the AFI Conservatory.
His debut film was 1979's Going in Style which starred popular actors such as Art Carney and George Burns.
He grew up with his family in Bronx, New York.
