American girl who made headlines as a sixth grader when she initiated the #1000BlackGirlBooks drive, in which she collected books which feature African-American children as central characters. Her book drive led to appearances on shows like The Nightly Show and CBS This Morning.
She grew up in New Jersey. In 2015, she was awarded the Disney Friends for Change grant.
She has written about pop culture on the blog B.A.M., which she co-created with her friends Briana and Amina.
Her mother Janice grew up in St. Mary, Jamaica.
