Mark Strand
Poet
Poet, author, and translator who was named U.S. Poet Laureate in 1990. His numerous poetry collections include The Story of Our Lives, Man and Camel, and Almost Invisible.
He graduated from Yale University with a B.F.A. in painting and later studied creative writing at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
He received the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for Blizzard of One.
He was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and he later settled in California.
He admired the surrealist art of Rene Magritte.
