Standout center in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, began his NHL career in 2009 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Playing three seasons of junior hockey in the AJHL, he led the league in scoring and was named Most Valuable Player in 2005-06.
After an up and down 2010-11 season, where he had a scoring drought followed by a multi-goal scoring game, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He was born in Elk Point, Alberta.
He was teammates with Sidney Crosby on the Penguins from 2009 to 2011.
