Mark Dayton

Democratic Party politician who was elected Governor of Minnesota in 2011. He had previously represented his native Minnesota in the United States Senate.
He became known to the political world as a result of his 1982 Senate defeat against Republican David Durenberger.
In 2006, he voted in support of same-sex marriage.
His marriage to oil heiress Alida Rockefeller Messinger lasted from 1978 until 1986. He later married Janice Haarstick Fier; this marriage also ended in divorce.
His great grandfather George Dayton founded the department store chain that developed into the Target corporation.
