Actress, writer, producer, and lover of millionaire William Randolph Hearst, who financed her 1918 film Cecilia of the Pink Roses.
She chose the name Davies after seeing it on a real estate sign.
She and Hearst lived together as a couple for many years, but never married because Hearst's wife would not grant him a divorce.
She began a relationship with William Randolph Hearst in 1917 that continued until his death in 1951. She later married Horace G. Brown on October 31, 1951.
She was the basis for the second wife of Orson Welles's character in Citizen Kane.
