Marie Bashir

Prior to becoming the thirty-seventh and first female Governor of New South Wales, this Australian politician and medical professional worked for the Central Sydney Area Health Service as the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services.
After graduating from the University of Sydney's Medical School, she worked at both the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children and Vincent's Hospital.
In 2007, she was appointed Chancellor of the University of Sydney.
Her marriage to politician and professional rugby player Nicholas Shehadie resulted in children named Michael, Susan, and Alexandra.
She and Lachlan MacQuarie both served as Governor of New South Wales.
