Known for such 1970s hits as "Ich bin wie Du," "Fremder Mann," and "Lieder der Nacht," this German Schlager vocalist and songwriter also released a 2008 jazz album titled I'm a Woman.
During the mid 1970s, she competed several times for a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest.
In both Germany and the Netherlands, she developed a significant gay fan base.
She was born in Berlin, Germany, to a family of Roma heritage. Her father, Otto Rosenberg, was a Holocaust survivor and political activist.
Her career was revived in the late 1980s when she performed a popular version of German songwriter Dieter Bohlen's "I Need Your Love Tonight."
