Maria Malibran
Opera Singer
Spanish contralto and soprano opera singer who is known as one of the foremost opera performers of the 20th century. A wide variety of her possessions have been preserved at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the Maria Malibran fund.
Her father Manuel García, a their tenor in his own right, schooled her on singing. She repeatedly clashed with him.
A bronze plaque was installed with her likeness outside of Teatre Principal, Barcelona in 1847. She was most closely associated with the operas of Gioachino Rossini, who praised her talent.
Her father originated the role of Count Almaviva in the Rossini opera The Barber of Seville.
Cecilia Bartoli's 2007 album Maria was dedicated to her.
