Maria Gadú
Folk Singer
Brazilian singer and songwriter who specializes in folk music. She is also known for her guitar plating and is known for her hit single "Shimbalaie" which was number one in Italy during 2011 and was at the top of the FIMI charts for five consecutive weeks.
She started playing guitar at a young age, recording herself on cassette tapes. She then started performing throughout Brazil at the age of 13. In 2008, she moved to Rio de Janeiro and released her debut album the following year.
Her album Guela was nominated for the Best MPB Album at the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards.
She was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
She is known for having performed a duet with Tony Bennett on the song "Blue Velvet" for his Viva Duets album.
