French religious leader who was the foundress of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in the colony of New France which became part of Canada.
She set sail with 100 other colonists from France on Saint-Nicholas in 1653.
She was declared a saint by the Catholic Church.
She was born the sixth child out of twelve children to Abraham Bourgeoys and Guillemette Garnier.
