Margarita Zavala
Lawyer
Mexican lawyer and politician best known for being the first lady of Mexico from 2006 until 2012. She is also known for being a member of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and of the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District.
She was a youth leader of the Partido Accion Nacional at 17. She first met Felipe Calderon in 1984 when they were both activists of the PAN Party. After working for several private law firms she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2003.
She has earned several international honors including the Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog in Denmark and the Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic in Spain.
She was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico. She married form President of Mexico Felipe Calderon in 1993 and together they have three children.
She met and was photographed with fellow first lady Michelle Obama in the Yellow Oval Room at the White House in February of 2010.
