Professional soccer player known for his career with Palmeiras of the Serie A. He is a goalkeeper who has also played for Brazil's national team and is known for winning the 2002 FIFA World Cup as a part of Brazil's national team.
He first began his youth career in 1990 playing as a part of the Lencoense club. In 1992, he started playing with Palmeiras and was eventually moved up to their senior team that same year. He made his debut on the Brazil national team in 1992 as well.
He has won several individual awards and honors for his playing including the Best Latin American Goalkeeper award in 1999 and 2000 as well as the Cope Libertadores award for Most Valuable Player in 1999.
He was born and raised in Oriente, Brazil.
