Maggie Gallagher
Journalist
A conservative syndicated columnist, she also co-founded the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposed same-sex marriage.
She studied at Yale University, where she joined the Political Union and participated in the Party of the Right.
Her three books on the subject of marriage argue that the traditional institution of marriage is under siege as a result of the sexual revolution and modern culture, in general.
She and her three siblings were born in Lake Oswego, Oregon, to William Walter Gallagher, Sr. and Darrilyn Doris Stenz. She was raised in a Catholic household; after spending years as an atheist, she returned to the Catholic faith.
She was inspired by the work of Ayn Rand.
