American track and field athlete who won a gold metal in the 800 meter race at the 1968 Olympics.
She received her education from Tennessee State University.
She founded and became president of the United States Council for Sports Chaplaincy, serving as chaplain at a number of Olympic games.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
She and Michael Johnson both became members of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
