He fell into judo because his uncle mistook the sport for karate.
Between 2008 and 2015, he was named Czech Judoka of the Year eight times.
He married Eva Krpálková in 2015. Together they had a child named Antonín Krpálek.
He and Teddy Riner are both judoka champions.
