Luc Ferrari
Composer
Known for using tape music in his compositions. He especially favored ambient sounds like recordings of the beach.
He studied the piano with famed pianist and conductor Alfred Cortot, musical analysis with Olivier Messiaen, and composition with Arthur Honegger.
His 1970 composition, Presque rien No. 1 "Le Lever du jour au bord de la mer," used a day's worth of sounds from a Yugoslavian beach edited down to 21 minutes.
He was married to Brunhild Ferrari until his death.
He followed John Cage's principle that music is always going on all around us and if only we were to stop and listen to it, we would realize this.
