An 18th century philosopher and Hindu saint who was thought by his followers to be an avatar of Shiva who was sent to rid the world of sin.
He meditated in the Himalayas as a student of Bhagavan Ganguly.
His name adorned dozens of temples and ashrams around the world, including many in India and Bangladesh.
His parents were Hiramnarayan Ghoshal and Kamala Devi.
He and Sri Aurobindo were both prominent Indian religious figures.
