Over the course of his five-decade screen acting career, he played character roles in episodes of Mission: Impossible; Route 66; Mork & Mindy; Murder, She Wrote; and numerous other television series. Also a film actor, he played Jim Bob Collins in the 1988 feature Pass the Ammo and Brehon Somervell in the 1989 historical film Fat Man and Little Boy.
Following a brief stint in the U.S. Navy, he trained in New York City under the their acting teacher Lee Strasberg.
He and his real-life wife played a married couple in the 1980 Clint Eastwood film Any Which Way You Can.
The son of Harriet Kilmartin Ramsey and U.S. Navy aviator Logan Carlisle Ramsey, Sr., he spent his youth in Long Beach, California. He was married for over three decades to actress Anne (Mobley) Ramsey.
In the early 1980s,, he guest starred in two episodes of Ed Asner's Lou Grant show.
