Early in her career, she appeared in such films as It's in the Water and Detention.
She earned a 2004 Dallas Theater Critics Forum Award for her performance in the musical Ain't Misbehavin'.
When her apartment burned to the ground in early 2010, the Dallas theater community held several fundraising performances in her honor.
She played the mother of Gaius Charles' character on Friday Night Lights.
