He served in the Korean War, during which he contracted tuberculosis, which eventually cost him a lung.
He was ranked #45 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
He had a total of eight children across three marriages to Elizabeth Canady Wray, Ethel "Kitty" Tidwell Wray and Sharon Wray.
His song "Rumble" had a significant influence on Jimmy Page, as well as the blues and hard rock movements.
