Famous as the head football coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. He was named the successor to Bob Stoops following the 2016 season, and subsequently led the team to the 2017 Rose Bowl and a #2 ranking in the College Football Playoffs.
He walked on to Texas Tech University's football team as a quarterback in 2002. After one year, he segued into coaching by becoming a student assistant to then-head coach Mike Leach.
He served as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks' coach from 2015-2016 prior to becoming head coach. For his work during the 2015 season, he won the prestigious Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach.
He married his wife Caitlin Buckley in 2007. He has daughters, Sloan and Stella.
He coached eventual Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield to a semi-final finish in 2017.
