Libby Riddles
Dog Musher
Notable as the first female winner of the their Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, she is also well known as a champion sled dog breeder.
In 1978, she competed in and won her first dog mushing race, the Clines Mini Mart Sprint.
Following her Iditarod victory, she lived among the Alaskan indigenous peoples for over half a decade.
Raised in Wisconsin and Minnesota by Mary and Willard Riddles, she relocated to Alaska in her late teens. She and her partner, fellow dog trainer and breeder Joe Garnie, eventually settled in Teller, Alaska.
She and Lance Mackey are both Iditarod champions.
