Lewis Yancey

Pioneering aviator who made historic flights from Maine to Rome and from New York to Bermuda.
He served in World War I with the navy; his interest in aviation developed later.
He was awarded aviation medals by three European countries and by Pope Pius XI.
He grew up in Chicago, Illinois.
He and fellow aviator, Max Conrad, both flew over oceans without the aid of modern navigation instruments.
