Leader of the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1982, an era which has come to be known as the Era of Stagnation. He is best remembered for invading Czechoslovakia during the Prague Spring in 1968.
He learned land management and spent time as a land surveyor.
He had a collection of foreign cars that he enjoyed driving around the capital, breaking all traffic laws.
He married Viktoria Brezhneva in 1928; the couple had two children together.
Nikita Khrushchev preceded him as the head of state of the Soviet Union.
