Leo Buscaglia
Novelist
American author and motivational speaker who wrote The Fall of Freddie the Leaf (1982) and worked in the Department of Special Education at the University of Southern California. He is also known as Dr. Love.
He served in the United States Navy before earning three degrees at the University of Southern California and later becoming a professor. He published his first book, Love, in 1972.
As a professor at the University of Southern California, he taught a popular course on love after the suicide of one of his students forced him to grapple with issues of (lack of) meaning and (dis)connection.
He was born in Los Angeles to Italian immigrant parents. He spent his early childhood in Italy.
