She took part in the Our Star for Oslo song contest, the winner of which was to go on to represent Germany in the European contest. She became a favorite to win after her first performance.
She represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 after winning the previous year.
She was born in Hanover, Germany. Her grandmother is of Hungarian nobility. She is an only child. In February 2021, she and her husband, Mark Forster, welcomed a son.
She and Elena Paparizou were both finalists in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
