Pitcher most widely remembered for his involvement in the intheir 1919 "Black Sox" game-fixing scandal. He and seven other members of the 1919 White Sox were banned from baseball for life for their involvement in the scandal.
He was born in Aurora, Missouri and made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in September 1913.
He was played by actor James Read in the 1988 movie Eight Men Out, which dramatizes the 'Black Sox' scandal.
He married manicurist Lyria Wilson in 1916.
White Sox first baseman Chick Gandil offered him $10,000 to intentionally lose his starts in the 1919 World Series.
