Leci Brandão
World Music Singer
Brazilian singer and composer who is known for her work in MPB or Musica Popular Brasileira. She is recognized for the hit singles "Questao de Gosto" and "Metades" and is also an activist who has performed at several events to fight against discrimination for both the LGBTQ community and people of color.
She first started releasing her music in 1974 when she dropped her debut album A Musica de Donga, followed by her self-titled solo album that same year. She then started performing in several films including the 1996 hit Xica da Silva.
Her performance of the song "Quero Sim" won the National Meeting of Samba Composers Award in 1973.
She is the daughter of Perola Negra who helped pioneer the Brazilian pagode style of music.
She participated in the 2005 album Raca Brasileira: 20 Anos alongside fellow artists Beth Carvalho and Arlindo Cruz.
