Before taking office in 2005 as fourth President of Poland, this Law and Justice Party founder served as Mayor of Warsaw and as Polish Minister of Justice. In 2006, he became a political Independent.
After earning his undergraduate degree from Warsaw University, he received a doctorate from Gdańsk University.
In their late childhood years, he and his brother both starred in a 1962 Polish children's movie titled The Two Who Stole the Moon.
His marriage to economist Maria Kaczynska resulted in a daughter named Marta. His twin brother, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, served as Prime Minister of Poland.
When the plane carrying Kaczynski and other Polish leaders crashed in Russia, killing all ninety-six on board, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev launched a government investigation of the disaster.
