Laurel Clark
Astronaut
Crew member of the doomed Columbia space shuttle, which broke up above Texas upon reentry into Earth's atmosphere.
She studied zoology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, before earning a medical degree.
An asteroid and several planetary landmarks were named in her honor, as well as an auditorium at the National Naval Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland.
Her husband Jonathan Clark was a captain in the U.S. Navy.
Gus Grissom was another astronaut who died in a shuttle accident.
