Known for his starring role in the 2001 comedy movie Pootie Tang, he also had a career as a screenwriter, contributing to such series as Lopez Tonight and Wanda at Large and to such films as Good Hair and Down to Earth.
Early in his acting career, he appeared in the 1992 film Class Act.
He wrote for The Wayne Brady Show from 2001 until 2003.
He studied at Lindblom High School in Chicago, Illinois.
He and Chris Rock co-starred in the Louis C.K.-directed Pootie Tang.
