Austrian-born actor who appeared in the original Broadway productions of Waiting for Godot, Barefoot in the Park, and The Sound of Music. His film credits include Casino Royale, Arms and the Man, and The Journey.
He traveled from his native Austria to the United States in 1936 to perform with Max Reinhardt's theatre troupe.
He fought in the United States Army during World War II and was one of the first photographers to capture the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
He was married to actress Leora Dana for eight years.
He appeared with Mary Martin in The Sound of Music on Broadway.
