East German swimmer who in 1976 became the first female swimmer to win four gold medals at a single Olympics.
She won three silver medals at the 1972 Olympics when she was only 13 years old.
She was widely suspected of being on steroids during the 1976 Olympics while East German doctors went under suspicion.
She was married to Olympic champion Roland Matthes for six years before marrying track and field and bobsledding athlete Steffen Grummt.
She won gold at the 1976 Olympics while boxer Sugar Ray Leonard also took home the gold.
