Long Jumper
Greek Olympian who was the winner of the standing long jump at the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games; he was a 19-time Greek champion.
He studied commerce in Athens and played soccer and water polo.
He also won two silver medals at the 1908 London Olympic Games, one for the standing long jump and one for the standing high jump; he added a bronze medal to his 1912 Stockholm gold, this one for the standing high jump.
He died from meningitis when he was 24; his family home in Pylos was turned into a museum in honor of his life.
He fought in the Balkan Wars from which the inflamed tensions would lead to the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, eventually sparking World War I.
