Conservative Republican Senator for Missouri from 1987 to 2011 who also served two non-consecutive terms as the Governor of Missouri. He first won the governorship at age 33, making him the youngest Governor in Missouri's history.
He practiced law at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. before running for congress in 1968.
He was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship from 1995 to 2001.
He married Republican consultant Linda Pell in 2002.
He was on the shortlist to become Gerald R. Ford's running mate during the presidential election of 1976.
