He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor's in Biology. He was a marketing executive in high technology. He was a published author in the field of optoelectronics. For entertainment, he started out at Hollywood's The Comedy Store as part of an improv group.
He was a women's track coach on five national championship track teams at the University of Nebraska and Louisiana State University. He was a three-time finalist in the USA Songwriting Contest in the Gospel category.
He was born to parents Judy and Ron Bovill. He married Joni Bovill in May of 1995. They eloped in Negril, Jamaica.
He starred alongside Steve Carell in the 2018 movie Vice.
