She was a state champion in cross-country running in high school.
She became the first American woman to medal in cross country skiing at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
Her aunt is fellow cross-country skiing Olympian Betsy Haines.
She and Russian-born skier Vladimir Smirnov are both Olympic medalists in cross-country skiing.
