Classically trained musician, author, and composer who embraced jazz as a young man, falling right in line with the growing wave of European jazz.
His concert debut came when he was 16, playing Béla Bartók's third piano concerto.
His first book, 1972's Alone, was a poetry collection.
His family noticed his talents early on and did nothing to discourage his developing skills. He won the Youth Piano Master title in 1966 and 1968.
His songs for the albums Rainbow Sessions and The Light prompted Gramophone magazine to compare him favorably to the legendary Leonard Cohen.
