He was the first wrestler to ever claim all three of puroresu's major titles: the AJPW Triple Crown, GHC Heavyweight, and IWGP Heavyweight Championships.
He made his debut in 1986, for the promotion Japan Pro Wrestling.
He claimed the IWGP Heavyweight Championship five times, and the IWGP Tag Team Championship seven times.
He proposed to Akira Hokuto on their first date, and the couple married in 1995, and had children in 1998 and 2003.
He became tag team partners with Kazuo Yamazaki.
