Kensey Johns

Attorney and jurist who earned the title of Chancellor of Delaware. In 1794, he briefly filled a vacancy in the United States Senate before being ejected due to a lack of adequate credentials.
During the American Revolution, he served as a minuteman.
He was a member of the Delaware Constitutional Convention in 1792.
He had a son, Kensey Junior, who took his place as Chancellor of Delaware after he passed away in 1832.
He was appointed by Governor Joshua Clayton to fill George Read's seat on the United States Senate after the Delaware General Assembly deadlocked over a replacement.
