He attended Indiana University where he studied drums. After graduating, Aronoff briefly pursued a career in jazz music.
He was a member of John Mellencamp's band.
His wife's name is Liz Aronoff.
He played the drums on the album The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne.
